What are the most surprising facts about Wayne?

- Our town was named after General Anthony Wayne even though he never stepped foot here!
- Our "Main Street" is Michigan Avenue/US-12 or the old "Chicago Road" which connects Detroit to Chicago with many stopping points in between. It originated as a Native American trail and before that it was a trail used by mastodons (several bones/skeletons have been found)!

What are the biggest annual events in your town?

Wayne Farmer's Market, May-October
Free Concerts in the Park, July & August
Rouge-A-Palooza Festival, October
Annual Downtown Scarecrow Contest

Check out Downtown Wayne's events calendar to see what is happening throughout the year!

What do you want visitors to discover/visit in your community?

Our walkable historic downtown with unique small businesses that can't be found anywhere else, our beautiful Goudy Park on the Rouge River, and the Farmer's Market every Wednesday.

What initiatives is your city currently working on?

Facade Improvements on historic commercial buildings are taking place thanks to a locally administered Facade Grant Incentive Program. A new pocket park in an alley is in the planning stages right now (Derby's Alley - named after our founding father Ezra Derby) that will not only be a gathering spot in the city but a center of activity with acoustic performances and food trucks during special events.

Where would you take someone on a first date in your Wayne?

The historic State Wayne Theater (Art Deco in design) and dinner at The Avenue American Bistro
