What is the most surprising fact about Cooperstown?

It’s a small village (only 1,800 year-round citizens), located on the southern shore of Otsego Lake – headwaters of the mighty Susquehanna River.


Do you have any famous current, former, or historic residents?

James Fenimore Cooper – America’s first great novelist – wrote his Leatherstocking Tales about the Cooperstown area and Lake Otsego in the early 1800s and was the first to put Cooperstown “on the map” on the international stage.


What are the biggest annual events in your community?

The National Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Weekend, held each year in late July, attracts upwards of 80,000 people (Cal Ripkin, Jr. in 2007). Average attendance ranges in the tens of thousands and the area gets national media exposure.

Because we’re home to a plethora of outstanding museums, family-friendly activities abound in the Cooperstown area – year-round. From the Cooperstown Chamber of Commerce to the Cooperstown Concert Series and many more, there are concerts, festivals and fun for kids of all ages throughout the year.
